As all of us go through our daily routines of
commercial real estate in Dallas – we think of the normal things: occupancy, vacancy, rental rates, cap rates, who is moving where, where can I find my next deal. What if we woke up one morning and the place we call home, OUR real estate, was completely gone – or worse taken from us forcibly.
ShelterBox is a unique disaster relief organization whose sole focus is to provide shelter warm and dignity to those around the world who have been displaced by natural or manmade disaster. We provide the “Big Green Box” that contains a custom made 10 person tent, water purification, mosquito nets or warm hats and gloves where appropriate, cooking supplies and tools.
I am proud to be a part of this organization. As a ShelterBox Ambassador I raise awareness for ShelterBox though public speaking engagements, speaking to local Rotary Clubs, Scout troops and faith based organizations. I am working towards becoming an SRT, or ShelterBox Response Team member where, after weeks of extensive training, I can be in country delivering this much needed assistance.
The fear of public speaking grips most people. I have found, however, when you are passionate about the subject, be it a real estate service you can provide or delivering shelter warm and dignity through ShelterBox, the words flow naturally. When there is something you really stand behind you can’t wait to tell people about it and see how you can help. Bradford Real Estate Services is a best in class, full service real estate company and another organization I am proud to be a part of. We work hard every day to get our word out and try and help people with their real estate situation. Very different than delivering 120 pound ShelterBoxes to the remote villages in the Philippines
; but a truly valuable service just the same.
When your deal dies in the ninth inning or you lose that big assignment to a competitor, take a minute and log onto
www.shelterbox.org and take a look at the folks out there who have lost their “real estate”.
It really puts the definition of loss into perspective.
