The North Texas commercial real estate community is truly blessed by the number of quality organizations for professionals. The Real Estate Council
and many others offer avenues for CRE professionals to enhance their expertise and build relationships. With so many organizations and events to choose from, how does one decide? I always suggest aligning with an organization where you find the most commonality with your professional focus.
The fastest way to create relationships in this business is by interacting with your fellow professionals AWAY from an actual transaction. Whether that’s at a breakfast, lunch or happy hour, it builds new and ongoing business relationships. Whether it be meeting a Property Owner at a NAIOP breakfast who you have emailed and called on multiple occasions or being on a committee for NTCAR which allows you to meet over a dozen people who you have completed multiple transactions with over the years. These networking organizations allows CRE individuals to meet in person and form business relationships which has positive impact on your career going forward. In addition, there is also an opportunity for invaluable mentoring from experienced CRE professionals that you can take with you on your career journey.
Reach out and say hello to a real estate connection you haven’t spoke to in awhile but would love to catch up with and see what they are up to or take it another step and offer something of value to a member of your network that has help you get to where you are in your CRE career. Simple changes to your daily routine can have an enormous impact.
Immersion in the industry differentiates the person who views commercial real estate as a job versus a career. The more involved in the CRE industry you become, the more your name will be noticed in a line of name tags. Go out and network.
